Christmas 2019

December 9, 2019

The theme was "Dress to impress" and the assembled members and guests certainly did that.  There were several tuxedos and the ladies of all ages were particularly glamourous from the Guides to our most senior members.  Sid Barnes our most senior member and Normandy veteran was guest of honour.  He opened the buffet in true "Service Corps" style by being first to fill his plate. LOL.  The buffet was well received and you can see by the photos that most medals were won in this branch for being at the front of the NAAFI queue.  The entertainments sub committee did a wonderful job of arranging the evening and setting up the venue.  We were ably supported by the families club in the form of Woody the elf behind the bar, who single handedly made sure everyone was kept lubricated (age appropriately of course).  There was a duo performing 40's style and Christmas music and songs although I think at one point the Guides hijacked the mic and there was some impromptu karaoke! Most of the members and several of the guests commented on how much they had enjoyed the evening.  The raffle raised a significant amount towards the branch 100th birthday party planned for 2021 and a separate collection provided for a Christmas hamper for Sid to be presented by the Guides later. By midnight the club had been returned to it's original condition thanks again to most of the committee and a few helpers.  The RAF members would never know we had been there except for the bulging cash tin behind the bar, merry Christmas!
