County Conference 2019
Saturday the 2nd of February 2019 was the date of the Norfolk county conference held at Norfolk County Hall in Trowse. It is the forum for the Norfolk branches to come together and have their say in RBL affairs. It is also the chance for branches to lobby county committee members and National representatives. To that end it was rather disappointing in that only 13 branches were represented out of a possible 62. Some of this may be due to not filing accounts and necessary branch administration papers in time and I am sure the weather may have had something to do with it as well, it was bitterly cold. From Watton's point of view we did our bit, being represented by me as Chairman(delegate) Victoria our Vice Chair, Helen our secretary and Steve flying the flag as usual. The 2 speakers were very interesting one from the Royal Navy setting out how the RN is organised locally. The second speaker was the county commissioner for the Scouts in Norfolk who gave a very passionate account of what scouting is about in the 21st century. Towards the end of the proceedings awards were distributed for a variety of disciplines but most notable for us was the award for most efficient branch, the first time ever won by Watton for a trophy initiated in 1930. It was collected by Helen because as secretary I decided she was most responsible for the improvements and efficient running of the branch, guided by me obviously!!! The award was presented by Maj. Gen Sir William Cubitt Norfolk County President RBL. Generally a good day was had, and thanks were extended to the retiring county Chairman W.O. John Boisson and the county Ceremonial officer Roy Hill. The new era begins with our new chair Hugh King.
