RAF at 100

2018 marks the 100th birthday of The Royal Air Force, and I am proud to say I took part in a quarter of those years, and was here to take part in celebrations too. The RAF 100 Baton Relay was a way of celebrating the RAF history by current members carrying a Baton around the country, culminating with it arriving at Buckingham Palace on 10th July, 100 days after the formation 100 years ago on 1st April 1918. That day will also see a 100 aircraft flypast along the Mall. Our part in all this was the Baton visiting Watton Families Club and the town museum. The baton arrived bang on schedule at 1600 when the assembled group partook of tea and cakes, cakes predominantly supplied by The Royal British Legion. Once suitably refreshed the baton and a party of walkers including the local Brownie group set out for the Watton Museum. The cakes had all had a good seeing to but by the time the walkers returned they were ready for hot dogs with all the trimmings supplied by the Families Club and watch England lose to Belgium, less said about that the better. All in all a good birthday party and not to have been missed as we wont see the next one for sure.
