Watton & District Branch of The Royal British Legion received an award recently for their contributions to the Poppy Appeal which is just one of the ways that the Royal British legion says Thank You to our armed forces community. It takes time to collect and collate all the necessary facts and figures but the branch was nominated as the branch with the greatest increase in contributions for the Poppy Appeal, for a small branch, in the year 2016/17. The award and certificate were presented by the county chairman John Boisson to Poppy Appeal organiser Mr Pat Murphy and his partner Pam Baktis at the Watton Branch Committee meeting held at The Blenheim Centre in Watton on 20th March 2018. Mr Murphy whilst not being a member of The Royal British Legion is the local Poppy Appeal organiser and the Legion is extremely grateful for his dedication to remembrance generally. Since the award was won, Watton Branch has seen somewhat of a revival of fortunes and is now actually considered to be a large branch with a current membership approaching 60, that’s almost doubled in the last 2 years. The branch now meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at The Blenheim Centre on Tedder Close in Watton, and is supported by the RAF and their families who run the facility as a families club. If you would like to join the Legion to assist in its work and join a good social group come along on a meeting night at 1900 or contact the branch secretary Helen Daly on 01953 885124 or email, firstname.lastname@example.org.
